Birthday parties are wonderful events to photograph—relaxed, fun, and filled with beautiful emotions. Ricardo's 60th birthday celebration at Pigalle restaurant in Cape Town was no exception; it was simply magical.

How I work:

  • Decor and setup:
    I arrive early and I start by capturing the decor and setup, all that effort needs to be recorded!!
     
  • Family first:
    I recommend doing a quick family shoot before the event starts. I've often found big celebrations bring everyone together in a way that doesn't normally happen. From then, I capture people arriving, laughter fun and special moments. I'm always sure to observe, see who the birthday girl, or boy is interacting with. Photos like this are incredible. 
     
  • I look for tears of joy:
    Speeches reveal so much, and I'm always on the lookout for those special moments as loved ones reflect an the person they are celebrating! 
     
  • My personality:
    I'm extremely relaxed when I work with people, if need be, I'll genlty direct and take over while stepping back when all I need to do is take photos.
