What do we wear at a family beach shoot in Cape Town?
I get asked this a lot. In a nutshell, keep it simple. Similar colours work well. Lighter colours / pastels look amazing.
Don't wear exactly the same thing! It can look like a uniform and quite contrived. Something to avoid is strong patterns and bright colours. But remember, it's your shoot, wear what you feel comfortable in.

Beach family shoots work so well.
I love using the beach for family shoots, the pictures always look amazing and have a great clean look. They also look great when wall mounted, especially as large canvases.
Location for a beach family shoot?
There are a few locations that work really nicely, my favourite locations are:
- Llandudno beach - keep in mind, during tourist season it can get very busy.
- Noordhoek beach - this beach tends to be a little quiter and works really nicely.
- Woodbridge Island - Well, not quite, just a few hundred meters away is a wonderfully secluded beach with a great view of Table Mountain too. It can get a little windy at times though.
Best time of day for family photos?
The best time is right at the end of the day about 45 minutes before sunset. Otherwise known as "The Golden Hour" the light is absolutely stunning and flattering too!
