She thought it was just a holiday but little did she know...
Matthias was going to propose. He'd chosen the gorgeous Tintswalo Atlantic at sunset to pop the question!
My brief as photographer was simple, don't let them know you're there. ;-)
I hid on the balcony next door.
I put a rug over the balcony so I wouldn't be seen, I skulked around like a secret CIA agent camera in hand! There were a few times I thought I'd been 'made' after speaking with Svenja, she told me "Not in the slightest" she had no idea I was there taking covert pictures as Matthias readied himself to propose to her.
The proposal:
The couple sat watching the view, sipping on champagne. Matthias was whispering sweet nothings into Svenja's ear and she was hanging on to his every word. It was really sweet to witness. You could see he was nervous, waiting for the right moment. A few times it looked as though he was going to but then he pulled back, nerves. Suddenly he went down on his knee and the and asked Svetlana to marry him. She melted! And said YES! How incredibly romantic. She was beaming and the pictures show it too.
Out of the Closet:
At this point I was able to make my presence known, it was nice to meet Svenja, up till now, I'd only met with Matthias. What a stunning couple!
As a photographer, It's a real privilege to be asked to shoot a proposal, it has to be one of the most important moments in any person's life. Capturing those wonderful memories forever is magical.
I wrapped up the shoot with a few pictures of the ring and of course a few with the incredible Tintswalo view and sunset. I hastily made my way out of there after so Matthias and Svenja could bask in the moment in together.
